Tony Helton

Interim President and Chief Executive Officer

Tony Helton is Medical Mutual’s Interim President and Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to joining Medical Mutual, Mr. Helton spent 18 years at the Cleveland Clinic, most recently serving as the Interim Chief Financial Officer. He previously served as Executive Director of Revenue Cycle and Continuous Improvement within Finance. He also was Administrator for the Division of Finance and managed the Clinic’s debt portfolio. He joined the Clinic in 2004 as the Administrator of Pain Management.

Prior to Cleveland Clinic, Mr. Helton served as a Controller and Chief Financial Officer in the manufacturing and service industries.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration from John Carroll University.

Mr. Helton serves on the board of the Community of Hope.

He enjoys spending time with his four children and grandson. He resides in Highland Heights and is a big fan of Cleveland sports teams.

Anthea Daniels, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer

Anthea Daniels

Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer

Anthea Daniels is Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer. Her duties include legal, compliance, financial investigations, and certificates and group contracts.

Ms. Daniels joined Medical Mutual is 2023. She previously served as Chief Legal Officer for Akron Children’s Hospital, where she was responsible for all legal, compliance, risk management and patient-advocate issues for the health system and several of its affiliates. Ms. Daniels also managed all HIPAA compliance issues, initiated quality improvement programs, reviewed all managed care agreements, and participated in managed care committees.

Prior to Akron Children’s, Ms. Daniels was a shareholder at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz. Her legal career began at Calfee, Halter & Griswold, where she was a partner, co-chair of the Healthcare and Life Sciences department, and chair of the Associates Committee.

Ms. Daniels received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Denison University and earned her law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She is a former adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University and a past president of the American Health Law Association, where she was the inaugural chair of the Women’s Leadership Council. Her civic engagements include being a member of the Great Lakes Theater board of trustees.

Ms. Daniels lives in Chagrin Falls with her husband, Matt, and their three daughters.

Tom Dewey

Tom Dewey

Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Operations Officer

Tom Dewey serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Operations Officer. He is responsible for the Membership, Claims and Customer Service areas of Medical Mutual. He also has responsibility for the Company’s Project Management Office, Continuous Improvement area, and provides executive leadership to Medical Mutual subsidiaries MedMutual Protect and Employee Services Inc. (ESI EAP).

Mr. Dewey joined Medical Mutual in 2012 as Director, Financial Planning and Analysis. After working in that position for two years, he took on the important role of Vice President, Human Resources.

In 2016, Mr. Dewey was promoted to Senior Vice President, People and Strategy, a role in which he added mergers and acquisitions to his HR responsibilities. He was promoted to Executive Vice President, People & Strategy in 2020. He has directed Medical Mutual’s acquisition of Superior Dental Care, Bravo Wellness, ESI EAP and MedMutual Protect (formerly the Reserve National Insurance Company).

Mr. Dewey is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from The Ohio State University and a Master of Business Administration in healthcare from Baldwin Wallace University. Mr. Dewey is the immediate Past President of the board of the Cleveland Public Library Foundation and currently serves as chairman of the Governance Committee. He also chairs the Finance Committee of College Now Greater Cleveland, serves as vice chairman for the Baldwin Wallace University Healthcare Advisory Committee, and is active with several other charitable organizations. He is a 2021 graduate of Leadership Cleveland and a member of the 50 Club of Cleveland.

Christopher Donovan

Executive Vice President, Chief Data and Information Officer

Christopher (Chris) Donovan is Medical Mutual’s Executive Vice President, Chief Data and Information Officer. He oversees Medical Mutual’s information management and leads its data and analytics strategy.

In 1992, Mr. Donovan began his 30-year career with the Cleveland Clinic. Most recently, he was Executive Director of Enterprise Analytics, leading the development and implementation of the corporate information management and analytics strategy. He previously served the Clinic as Executive Director of Fiscal Services, among other leadership roles.

Mr. Donovan earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Miami University and his MBA from Cleveland State University. In 2012, he completed the Health Management Academy GE CFO Fellowship and the Value Measurement for Health Care executive education course at Harvard Business School.

In 2018, Mr. Donovan co-founded Community of Hope, an award-winning agency serving Northeast Ohio youth who are aging out of the foster system. He also is a board member and former board president of the Healthcare Data & Analytics Association. He formerly served as a board member and partner representative of the Center for Analytics and Data Science at Miami University.

Having lived in Cleveland for most of his life, Mr. Donovan roots for the Browns, Cavaliers and Guardians. He is also a soccer fan, cheering on the Chelsea Football Club of England’s Premier League. In addition to hiking, backpacking and camping, Mr. Donovan enjoys brewing his own beer. He has two adult children and lives in Bay Village.

Dr. Manish Oza

Matt Feret

Executive Vice President, Sales and Customer Relations

Matt Feret is Executive Vice President, Sales and Customer Relations. He leads the development and execution of Medical Mutual’s sales strategy with the goal of driving revenue growth and expanding the Company’s market share.

Mr. Feret joined Medical Mutual in 2024. He has more than two decades of experience in sales, marketing, account management, operational strategy and process improvement across commercial group, ancillary and government programs. Prior to Medical Mutual, Mr. Feret spent six years with CVS Health/Aetna Inc., first as Chief Sales Officer – Aetna Individual Medicare, then as Chief Operating Officer – Aetna Senior Supplemental Insurance. He previously held leadership positions at HCSC and Humana.

Mr. Feret holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Virginia Tech and a Master of Health Administration from Washington University in St. Louis.

Andrea Hogben

Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing, Corporate Affairs and People Officer

Andrea Hogben is Medical Mutual’s Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing, Corporate Affairs and People Officer.

Andrea Hogben is Medical Mutual’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing, Corporate Affairs and People Officer.

Ms. Hogben oversees the company’s marketing and communications initiatives, as well as media relations, social responsibility, government relations, and diversity and inclusion. She also is responsible for Human Resources, including the hiring, compensation, benefits and leadership development for more than 3,600 employees. Ms. Hogben leads two subsidiary companies, serving as President of Superior Dental Care and also overseeing the MedMutual Life Insurance Company.

In 2016, she joined Medical Mutual after a 22-year career at The Plain Dealer. Ms. Hogben’s tenure at The Plain Dealer culminated with her serving as President of Advance Ohio, which included responsibility for The Plain Dealer, Sun News and cleveland.com.

Ms. Hogben serves on the board of the Cuyahoga Community College Foundation where she is a member of the executive committee. In addition, she serves on the board of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame where she is also a member of its executive committee and co-chair of the Committee on Trustees. She is Vice Chair of the Playhouse Square board of directors and a member of its executive committee. Ms. Hogben also serves as President of the Medical Mutual of Ohio Charitable Foundation and was co-chair of the Marketing and Content Committee for the Republican National Convention Host Committee. She is a former board member of Greater Cleveland Partnership.

Ms. Hogben earned a bachelor’s degree in both business and communications and an MBA from Baldwin Wallace University. She is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Cleveland.

Lori Johnston

Executive Vice President and President, Paramount Health Care

Lori Johnston is Executive Vice President and President of Paramount Health Care. Medical Mutual acquired Paramount in May 2024. In her role, Ms. Johnston oversees Paramount’s operations and the company’s integration into Medical Mutual. Based in Toledo, Paramount Health Care currently does business in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky.

Prior to joining Medical Mutual in 2024, Ms. Johnston served in various executive roles with ProMedica, Paramount’s former parent company. She was Chief Information Officer at ProMedica, and President and Chief Administrative Officer for ProMedica Physicians Group. Before joining ProMedica, Ms. Johnston was a Senior Manager at Ernst & Young.

She is a proven leader in healthcare strategy, operations and organizational development.

Ms. Johnston is a board member and the past chair of the Ohio Association of Health Plans and a board member of the Health Plan Alliance. She also serves on the boards of the Toledo Mud Hens and Toledo Walleye, the Inverness Club, the St. Francis de Sales High School Foundation and the Advisory Council for the Area Office on Aging. She is past chair of the Northwest Ohio Go Red for Women initiative and a $12 million capital campaign for the YWCA of Northwest Ohio. She also has spent time in Central America and the Philippines doing medical mission work.

Ms. Johnston holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Toledo and a Master of Business Administration from The Ohio State University.

She and her husband, Mark, have three grown children.

J. Nick Kompare

Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Chief Product Officer

Nick Kompare is Medical Mutual’s Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Chief Product Officer. In that role, he leads development of Medical Mutual’s overall strategy and is responsible for product development, corporate development and stakeholder experience.

Mr. Kompare spent 22 years with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, a 1.5 million-member health plan serving upstate New York. He most recently served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Chief Marketing Officer. In that role, he was responsible for corporate and business strategy, integrated marketing and brand strategy, corporate communications, digital strategy and operations, customer experience, competitive intelligence and market research. Mr. Kompare previously held the position of Chief Risk Officer, linking it to strategy, and had oversight of product development and management across all lines of business.

In 1993, Mr. Kompare began his career in healthcare in Baltimore in strategic planning and competitive intelligence roles with MedStar Health System. He later worked for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.

A native of western New York, Mr. Kompare earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Geneseo State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Buffalo.

He serves on the University of Buffalo School of Management’s Health Care Leadership Advisory Panel and Geneseo’s School of Business Advisory Committee. While at Excellus, Mr. Kompare was an Excellus board delegate to the Blue Venture Fund, a $1 billion venture fund collaborative across Blue plans, leading strategic investment decisions for Excellus.

Mr. Kompare and his wife, Bonnie, have four adult children. He and his family enjoy the outdoors and are avid fans of the Buffalo Bills.

 
Ray Mueller

Ray Mueller

Executive Vice President

Ray Mueller is Executive Vice President and Senior Advisor to the CEO. In this position, he plays a pivotal role in the execution of many Company initiatives and brings unique expertise from his experience with Medical Mutual and the insurance industry.

Mr. Mueller most recently served as Chief Financial Officer, a position he accepted in August 2012. Previously, he served as the company’s Senior Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller.

He joined Medical Mutual in 1986 as a Senior Financial Analyst in the Western Division based in Toledo. In 1990, he became an Accounting Supervisor for Medical Life Insurance Company, then a wholly owned subsidiary of Medical Mutual. In 1992, he became the Manager of External Financial Reporting and subsequently assumed additional responsibilities for renewal underwriting in 1997.

Mr. Mueller left Medical Life in 1998 for an opportunity as Assistant Vice President and Controller of Victoria Financial Corporation, an insurance holding company specializing in non-standard auto insurance. In 2003, he returned to Medical Mutual as Director of Finance. In this role, he was responsible for mergers and acquisitions, as well as several operational accounting functions.

In 2006, when Medical Mutual prepared to return to the life insurance business through Consumers Life (now MedMutual Life), Mr. Mueller accepted the position of Director, Life Operations. He was a key member of the leadership team that developed the infrastructure to reenter the life insurance business in 2008.

Mr. Mueller earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and an MBA from the University of Toledo. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1991. A member of both the American Institute of CPAs and the Ohio Society of CPAs, Mr. Mueller earned an FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute) designation.

He serves as a board member of the Great Lakes Science Center and the Downtown Cleveland Alliance. Mr. Mueller is a former board member of the American Heart Association’s Great Rivers affiliate and was Chairman of the Heart Association’s 2014 Cleveland Heart Walk. In 2014, he was honored by Crain’s Cleveland Business as Greater Cleveland’s Chief Financial Officer of the Year.

Mr. Mueller lives in Avon, Ohio, with his wife, Bev. The couple share two grown children and two grandchildren.

Robert King

Robert J. King Jr.

Chairman of the Board

Robert King Jr. is the chairman of the Medical Mutual Board of Directors.

He most recently served as senior advisor for FNB Corp. Previously, he spent four years as President and CEO of Park View Bank, which was acquired by FNB. Prior to joining Park View Bank, Mr. King was Senior Managing Director of FSI Group LLC, a private equity operation focused on investing in the financial sector. He also held numerous positions with Fifth Third Bank and Fifth Third Bancorp, including Executive Vice President, President and Regional President of Fifth Third affiliate banks in Cleveland, Toledo, Dayton, Columbus and southern Ohio.

Mr. King serves on the boards of directors of the University of Cincinnati Foundation, Diversity Center, The Andersons Inc. and MTD Inc.

Mr. King earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA in marketing from Xavier University. He holds a graduate degree in banking from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

Fred DiSanto

Fred DiSanto

Fred DiSanto is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ancora. He became the Chief Executive Officer in 2006 and Chairman in 2014. Mr. DiSanto leads Ancora and its three registered investment advisors along with its broker dealer.

Prior to joining Ancora, Mr. DiSanto served as Executive Vice President and Manager of the Fifth Third Bank’s Investment Advisors Division overseeing Investment Management, Private Banking, and Trust and Banking Services. He served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Maxus Investment Group from 1998 until December 2000. Maxus was subsequently sold to Fifth Third Bank in January 2001. In his role at Maxus, he was responsible for the marketing, sales and financial operations. He also served as Managing Partner at Gelfand Partners Asset Management from 1991 until its merger with Maxus in 1997. Mr. DiSanto began his investment career in 1985 with McDonald Investments in Institutional Equity Sales.

In addition to serving on the board of directors of Medical Mutual, Mr. DiSanto is currently on the boards of The Eastern Co., Alithya and Regional Brands Inc. He is Chair of the board of trustees at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), former Chairman of the St. Ignatius High School board of regents and former Chairman and current Trustee of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. He is a past board member of Lorain National Bank and Parkview Federal Savings Bank. Mr. DiSanto earned a bachelor’s degree in management science from CWRU and an MBA from CWRU’s Weatherhead School of Management.

Terrance Egger

Terrance C.Z. Egger

Terrance C.Z. “Terry” Egger is the former Chief Executive Officer and Publisher of Philadelphia Media Network, the parent company of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and Philly.com.

Mr. Egger spent more than three decades in the news business as a publisher, advertising executive and marketing director. He currently serves as principal of CZ Advisors, a Cleveland-based consulting firm. He served as the President and CEO of the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee Inc., with which he helped lead the successful effort to secure Cleveland's bid to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.

Mr. Egger spent eight years leading the parent company of The Plain Dealer in Cleveland. Before that, he worked for 10 years in a similar capacity at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He was also a newspaper executive in Tucson, Arizona.

In 2013, Mr. Egger retired as Chairman of The Plain Dealer Publishing Co., where he was responsible for the overall policy, operation and direction of Ohio’s largest newspaper. He joined The Plain Dealer in May 2006 and served as its President, Publisher and CEO.

In addition to serving as a member of the board of directors for Medical Mutual, Mr. Egger is also on the board of directors of FutureFuel. He also serves as a member of the board of trustees for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is a Life Director of the board for United Way of Greater Cleveland and served as chairman of United Way’s board from 2010 to 2012. Mr. Egger served on the executive committee for the Greater Cleveland Partnership and was co-chair of the Marketing Committee for the 2013 National Senior Games. He also served on the boards of the Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland Museum of Art.

Kathleen Hanley

Kathleen S. Hanley

Kathleen S. Hanley is a seasoned healthcare executive with 35 years of financial management experience with ProMedica, a leading integrated healthcare delivery system based in the Midwest. In 2015, she retired from ProMedica after serving as the system’s Chief Financial Officer for 18 years. Other executive positions she has held at ProMedica include Chief Strategic Planning Officer, President of ProMedica Indemnity Corporation, and Chief Integration and Development Officer.

Ms. Hanley’s executive leadership experience covers finance, accounting, revenue cycle, treasury, managed care contracting, risk management, internal audit and compliance, performance improvement, and supply chain management. In addition, she has led mergers and acquisitions and related transaction integrations.

Ms. Hanley sits on the board of trustees for Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, AZ. She has also held many leadership positions with a variety of community organizations including The University of Toledo Foundation, The University of Toledo College of Business & Innovation, and Notre Dame Academy. She holds Bachelor and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Toledo and was a certified public accountant. She and her husband, Michael, have two grown children.


Mike Keating

Michael K. Keating

Michael "Mike" Keating is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of The Christ Hospital Health Network in Cincinnati. He is now a principal in a healthcare investment firm headquartered in New York that he helped form with the intent of reducing costs for consumers and the healthcare industry.

During Mr. Keating's tenure as President and Chief Executive Officer, The Christ Hospital was recognized by Forbes as one of the top 25 large employers in the nation in the magazine’s “America’s 500 Best Large Employers” listing and 29th out of 300 in the country in “Best Employers for Women.” Ohio Business Magazine recognized the hospital as one of the best workplaces in Ohio, and U.S. News and World Report named the hospital one of the nation’s top 50 hospitals. The Christ Hospital was among only 5% of hospitals in the nation to be awarded Magnet recognition for nursing excellence and among the top 5% of hospitals in the country for patient satisfaction.

Mr. Keating also played an integral role with The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Under his leadership, the college evolved from a two-year associate program to a four-year degree college and doubled the number of enrolled students. The Christ College has been recognized as the No. 1 college in the region, based on its return on investment for students as determined by what its graduates are paid as they enter the workforce. U.S. Department of Education data also has shown the college had the highest graduation rates for first-time college students in comparison to its regional peers.

Prior to joining The Christ Hospital, Mr. Keating was a Managing Director and co-founder of a private investment firm. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President of a regional, public bank holding company and was responsible for its investment management business, which had care over $185 billion of assets. He started his career in law and was selected as a partner specializing in securities and merger-and-acquisition work.

Mr. Keating holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Denison University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He is active in a variety of civic and community organizations and serves, or has served, on the boards of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Elizabeth Gamble Home Association, The Clem and Ann Buenger Foundation, Cincinnati Regional Business Committee, REDI Cincinnati, The Health Collaborative and the Ohio Hospital Association. Mr. Keating and his wife, Jane, have five grown children and three grandchildren.

Darrell L. McNair

Darrell McNair is President and Chief Executive Officer of MVP Group, a certified minority-owned, privately held group of companies that provides injection molding services, mechanical design engineering services and distribution of foam and rubber products.

Mr. McNair’s professional achievements include marketing and finance positions at IBM and Ford, as well as entrepreneurial ventures ranging from medical supply, home healthcare services, construction and retail.

Mr. McNair earned his bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and his MBA from Baldwin Wallace University. He has a passion for working with small businesses and mentoring young African American males. Mr. McNair has established Real Life 101 scholarship programs at two Cleveland-area high schools, as well as a scholarship in honor of his father at Akron East High School.

During his leadership as Chairman of the Cleveland-based Presidents’ Council, Mr. McNair created strategic partnerships with corporate and government entities, which are enhancing growth and wealth-creation opportunities for the minority business community.

Mr. McNair is a current member and past Chair of the Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Port Authority, a member of The Presidents’ Council, and a member and past chair of the Minority Business Financing Advisory Board. In addition to being a member of the Crain’s Business Diversity Council and the Cleveland Federal Reserve Local Advisory Council, he also serves as a University Hospitals trustee and on the boards of directors for the Northeast Ohio Medical University, ECM Chemicals and JumpStart Inc.

Trudy Bartley

Trudy Bartley currently serves as the Associate Vice President of Local Government & Community Affairs for The Ohio State University. In this role, Ms. Bartley represents the university with local government and community by establishing relationships with community leaders, participating in community organizations and activities, and fostering community and university partnerships. She also monitors, researches and analyzes local government legislative and regulatory issues and is responsible for developing high-level strategies to create and strengthen local government and community relations. Ms. Bartley actively focuses on strategic university engagement and nurturing enhanced goodwill toward the university as she supports OSU’s work on boards, committees and ad hoc groups.

Ms. Bartley chaired the Franklin County Board of Commissioners Poverty Taskforce, which is a group of more than 30 Franklin county residents, and public, private, and nonprofit leaders. The yearlong process resulted in the development and creation of the County’s Rise Together Blueprint. The Blueprint, called “the people’s plan,” encompasses 13 goals and 120 actions to assist individuals in poverty with resources and the opportunity to realize their ideas of success and a sustainable household. The taskforce led to the Franklin County commissioners passing a resolution identifying racism as a public health crisis, as well as the development of the Rise Together Innovation Center, a newly created 501C3 that aligns resources and innovative ideas to lessen the poverty rate in Franklin County. Ms. Bartley currently is board chair of the Rise Institute.

She is the former Executive Director and current Board Chair of Partners Achieving Community Transformation (PACT). PACT is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to the comprehensive redevelopment of the Near East Side neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. Ms. Bartley was responsible for spearheading the strategic implementation of the Blueprint for Community Investment, a detailed master plan focused on revitalizing the Near East Side, which is known for its bottom-up approach to revitalizing a historic neighborhood.

Prior to coming to The Ohio State University, Ms. Bartley served as Deputy Director of Development for the City of Columbus. Following her career at the city, she served as President of Diversified Development Group, a minority real estate development company. She then moved on to work for the Ohio Department of Development where she served as the Chief Operating Officer, as well as Interim Director of the Minority Business Enterprise Division and Federal Stimulus Coordinator.

Since 2019, Ms. Bartley has been recognized annually on the “Power 100” by Columbus Business First as a Legacy Leader for Central Ohio. Her other civic roles have included serving as a board of trustee or commission member for the Franklin County Parks and Recreation (Columbus Clippers), the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation, past chair and board member for the Central Ohio Transit Authority, ADAMH, and KIPP Columbus. She has also served as chair of the New Albany Community Authority, the New Albany Planning Commission, WOSU, River South Community Authority, Columbus School for Girls, YWCA, COVA, the United Way of Central Ohio, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, and the Neighborhood Design Center. In addition, she chaired the City of Columbus’s 2022 Columbus Charter Review Commission and the Franklin County Commissioner’s Poverty Taskforce.

Ms. Bartley was born and raised in Columbus and is a graduate of the Columbus School for Girls. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from Wellesley College.
