Life can get busy but keeping active should be an important part of each day. We have five easy tips to help you include activity in your schedule.

Use Available Resources

Many exercise programs, including SilverSneakers®, offer on-demand fitness videos and applications. You can also find free videos online, and many gyms are now offering both virtual and in-person options.

Make a Plan

Decide what area(s) you’d like to focus on and research exercise options, then build a plan. An easy way to start is to set daily goals, building on these from week to week. Find a way to document this plan that works for you – it could be using pen and paper, or on your phone, tablet or computer. Some applications and websites will even let you build an entire fitness program to suit your needs. Be sure to add in days for rest and recuperation.

Think Outside the Box

You don’t just have to do traditional movements to stay in shape. Find other activities you enjoy like yardwork, dancing or leisure sports. You can also find easy ways to fit exercise into your day – walk up and down the stairs for a few minutes, use soup cans as weights or jump over a shoebox a few times!

Have a Buddy

Get other family members and friends involved – having someone to hold you accountable and take part in the activities with you will keep you motivated.

Get Outside!

Fresh air and vitamin D can do wonders for both your physical and mental health. Go for a walk, run or bike ride in your neighborhood or visit a local park and try out kayaking, hiking or paddleboarding.
