MedMutual Travel Plus™: A Medicare Advantage Benefit for Affordable Out-of-Network Care

Picture this: You feel a chill of winter in the air and decide to escape Ohio for a warmer climate. During your vacation, you suddenly feel unwell. You want to see a doctor, but the thought of paying out-of-network costs stops you. 

What can you do? 

MedMutual Advantage® members have access to MedMutual Advantage Travel Plus™, a benefit that can help pay for routine medical care when traveling outside of Ohio. 

Here are five questions and answers to illustrate how Travel Plus provides convenient and affordable care: 

Question 1: Does my HMO, HMO-POS or PPO plan include Travel Plus? 
Answer: All MedMutual Advantage HMO, HMO-POS and PPO plans include the Travel Plus Benefit. You can review your plan’s Evidence of Coverage to learn more.  

Question 2: How much will I pay if I see a doctor outside of Ohio? 
Answer: MedMutual Advantage members are covered for medically necessary services received outside of Ohio at an in-network rate up to their plan’s benefit maximum.  

Question 3: How do I use my Travel Plus Benefit? 
Answer: Before your trip, call Customer Care at 1-800-982-3117 (TTY 711), Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from April 1 through Sept. 30, and seven days a week 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from October 1 through March 31, and provide your travel dates so they can activate your benefit. 

Question 4: What happens if I extend my trip or leave early? 
Answer: If your return date changes, contact Customer Care to notify them of the changes and ensure your Travel Plus Benefit reflects your updated plans. 

Question 5: I’m traveling outside of the United States. Will I have coverage?
Answer: Yes, MedMutual Advantage members have emergency and urgent care covered worldwide up to $50,000 per calendar year when traveling outside of the U.S. for less than six months.
