Some medical services, such as MRIs or outpatient surgeries, require prior authorization from Medical Mutual. Prior authorization requires that your physician obtain approval before you can receive the medical service. Prior authorizations can also be required for prescription drugs. Prior authorization helps keep healthcare costs under control and ensures that the services you receive are medically necessary and appropriate for your health condition. If your physician does not obtain prior authorization, you may have to pay more out of pocket.
If you have questions about prior authorizations, call your Health Advocacy team at 1-800-233-2058.
